Generally, adhesives are viscoelastic-plastic materials, for which the development of viscosity and plasticity varies depending on the type of adhesive and the stress state. Various models exist to represent the yield surface, or the so-called elastic limit, taking into account the two stress invariants, hydrostatic stress and von Mises equivalent stress. Oceans environmental monitoring and seafloor exploitation need in situ sensors and optical devices (cameras, lights) in various locations and on various carriers in order to initiate and to calibrate environmental models or to operate underwater industrial process supervision. For more than 10 years Ifremer deploys in situ monitoring systems for various seawater parameters and in situ observation systems based on lights and HD Cameras. To be economically operational, these systems must be equipped with a biofouling protection dedicated to the sensors and optical devices used in situ. This study [...] was carried out from June 1998 to January 2000 and enabled the assessment of the scientific knowledge on the biology, ecology and distribution of the Annelida Polychaeta sedentaria: Ficopomatus enigmaticus. [...] In order to better determine the characteristics of this species' environment and development cycle, a study was conducted in the worksite of the marina of Vannes. This study, mostly biological, was completed by a technological study on the fighting techniques (antifouling paints) used against the damage made by this worm on the boat hulls. In addition, this document presents some recommendations to follow in order to limit, or stop, the development of this "pollution".

Since 1998, the European Biocidal Products Directive (BPD; 98/8/EC), applied to 23 product types (PT) for specific uses, including PT 21 the « antifouling products », regulates biocidal products before they are placed on the market. On the one hand, the efficacy of active substances and their formulations must be demonstrated for their specific employment ; on the other hand their non impact on workers neither users and environment must be proved and specifically against non target species. The influence of hydrostatic pressure on the interlaminar fracture toughness of carbon/epoxy composites ArchiMer

The use of composites for deep sea applications requires a thorough understanding of the behaviour of these materials. While several studies have examined the influence of pressure on in-plane properties few data are available for the interlaminar fracture behaviour. This paper presents results from such tests performed in a specially designed pressure vessel mounted on a standard test machine, which allows pressures up to 1000 bars (100 MPa) to be applied during mechanical testing. Mode I and Mode 11 tests have been performed on a unidirectional IM7/977-2 carbon/epoxy composite. No effect of pressure was noted on Mode I fracture toughness.
